Denise Riley, born in Carlisle, England in 1948, educated at Cambridge and Oxford, saw her first publication in the 1970s.

As  a poet, essayist, teacher, she is known for her ability to meld philosophy, feminism, art theory, and literary history in books of poetry and prose.
Riley turns abstract intellectual questions personal, and can be seen as the UK’s best answer to the New York School poets, bringing together philosophy with everyday speech and pop culture.
