וּבָנִינוּ אֲחֵרִים לְאֵלֵיהֶם;
וּמִנְהָגָם הָיָה מִנְהַג הַמְּדִינָה;

And You My Blue One and You My Grey One
In the winter by the river where we walk
two ring-necked doves fly up
out of the shale of your iris your
sleep falls on you a feather
quiet and cloudlike you cross
over: a labor all your own
like a pebble in a river
your sleep rolls across the bottom
of this winter night
where you sleep on the silk
skin of your cheeks the dreams
have turned into fabric
I stand lost in front of
eighteenth century Persian tiles
and from glass cases the pungent aroma
of a plant in the mountains of the
Hindu Kush my restlessness beads
off the copper of your certainty
