punktierter himmel

deutsch | Nico Bleutge

punctured sky

englisch

the lines of telegraph wires above the skeleton’s sandstone
the swelling clouds behind the hills
the pupils clicking into position. oblique exposure of the horizon

the coolness of the ceramics on the upper side of the fingers, the pressure
of tiny hairs against the napkin rings, the perspective
of the memories stacked up on top of one another

the dullish angle of the steps, the shadowy notch
of a staircase leading downwards, spanned by grey wire
which strikes out the roofs, the narrowing verandas as well

the spatter of cleaning water on the rifts in the tar
the ivy’s rusty colouration, the coarse sugar-cubes
on the metal skins of the frigate in the harbour, plate upon plate

i fill with images for the future, fill and fill
the crescent of the ocean broken out of the picture, the lime
in the finger-grooves, the sand and this sky that’s turned blue

wie licht
in spalten höhlen türmen
fließt licht in zellen
auf. du bist, doch wo?
die see rauscht schon
genug. wie schwerter drei
wolkenhaie sich übern himmel
schieben: formation. die
nacht ist hell. das rudel
ruft. licht wie es in
spalten höhlen steine
fließt. du bist nicht
wo, nicht wer. du
gehst, der wald steht still.
die erde dreht. das lamm
springt in die see. ein
schatten ruft. was altes
weiß von dir. die kehle
streckt sich schon. der
wolf liebt seinen satz.
das rudel ruft.

on grammar

englisch

like light
in fissures hollows towers
light flows up in
cells. you are. but where?
the sea’s already rushed
enough. like swords three
cloud-sharks shove their way
across the sky: formate. the
night’s alight. the pack
a call. light as it
flows into fissures hollows
stones. you’re not
where, not who. you
move, the forest’s standing still.
the earth turns. the lamb
leaps into the sea. a
shadow calls. something old
knows of you. the throat’s
stretched already. the
wolf loves its sentence.
a call, the pack.

nachmittag, wechselnde sicht

deutsch | Nico Bleutge

zeigt sie her

afternoon, shifting view

englisch

above the line of the mole. single points, the water
glimmers up yellow when the sun whispers through the

clouds, the hand curves round to catch the light
on the iris. into the picture eyelashes hang

the guide-rail of the lid, on which the sails slide
out to sea, gills, and the shore moves along

towards the harbour. the hair is following the wind
which goes back a long way, on the skin of the houses

cartilage is protruding and the shutters
are gasping for air. as though all hinged on the rhythm

of the drops which are beating against the stone stairs
but the pressure in the fingers wanes

they set the light free and take the head along
out to the boats which have long been looking

like small glassy bones, the swell is hiding them
proffering them

non sequitur

deutsch | Michael Speier

vielleicht der wind vielleicht nichts
in den tiefen korbstühlen dieses sterns
nun sind wir angekommen
wo die wildnis begann
als ob sie gewartet hätte

hineingeboren  in jene alte sekte
ausgerotteter antlitze
halten wir garantiert durch
rückzug in geduld und zertrümmerte grüfte
wie langbeinige fliegen aus gold

non sequitur

englisch

maybe the wind maybe nothing at all
in the deep wicker chairs
of this star
we've now arrived
where the waste started up
as though it had only been waiting

born into that antique sect
of wiped-out countenances
we'll hold out for sure
(retreat into patience and smashed-up crypts)
like long-legged flies
made of gold

joggen im vondelpark

deutsch | Michael Speier

jogging in Vondelpark

englisch

fine brushwork: january morning with drizzle,
one's shoes aquariums, pupil-dilations, cycling ladies
blossom (do vermeer's girls look like this?), a yellow
in the 17th century's debt, specific hue of green
determining sections of skin, and costly ultramarine
won from lapis lazuli, its luxuriant use, and there, to boot,
the somewhat cumbersome scarf, no hammer
fell on her appearance at my personal auction
of old masters, translucent the wholly leafless trees

deutsch | Michael Speier

fanden uns auf dem rücken des wals
später schlägt unruhig der schwanz
der dogge an den küchentisch

die katze ist auch schon da
die tödliche blume
schwankt im fenster
niemand trocknet den schweiss
des vertobten nachmittags

rauch der sterne
krümelt das gesicht
wo du mich berührst
war noch keiner
nicht mal ich

the moment when sea and skin met

englisch

found ourselves on the back of the whale
later unquiet the mastiff's
tail strikes the kitchen table

the cat's already here too
the lethal flower
lurches in the window
no-one dries the sweat
of the rage-spent afternoon

smoke of the stars
is crumbling that face
where you're touching me
no-one's ever been
not even I myself

wolken

deutsch | Michael Speier

 - entstanden, schon verschollen -
in denen du deine depression badest
wenn die himmel schließen, wolken
birnenförmig oder wie mauern
in szene gesetzt, fraktal oder gutgelaunt
nicht fixiert aufs fixieren flüchtige
balance zwischen zerstäubung
und zentrierung (wie das ich) wie dateien
die man nicht wiederherstellen kann
wie die zeit zwischen copy & past

clouds

englisch

the century of clouds, are you sure?
their surfaces as enigmatic
as their tactical ploys against centrifugal forces
unhurried shift of time and potential
you glimpse them from the benighted slum
of the economy class in gliding-by trains
or from the president's lounge where one showers
and drinks cost nothing, clouds you think
- come into being, already fleeing -
in which you bathe your depression
when the heavens close,
clouds pear-shaped or holding the stage
like walls, fractal, cheerful,
not fixated on fixating, fleeting
balance struck between atomisation
and centralisation (like the ego) like data
that cannot be retrieved
like the time between copy & past
