Emajõe ääres

Väike Sisyphos korjab
maast kive ja mängib nendega.
Tänavad, majad, autod.
Väike õrn valgus tema juustes,
tuulehoog. Väiksemad kivid
saab panna suuremate otsa,
nii tuleb torn. Siis lükkab
ta kõik ümber ja naerab.
Teised poisid ei taha temaga
mängida. Mõni tüdruk küll.
See, kellel on pikad juuksed.
Sisyphos leiab ühe eriti ilusa
kivi, see on õrnalt roosakas,
heledate triipudega. Selle jätab
ta alles, pistab tasku, ei näita
kellelegi. Koos kasvavadki
nad suureks.

By the Emajõgi River

Little Sisyphus gathers up
stones and plays with them.
Streets, houses, cars.
A gentle glow in his hair,
a breeze. Smaller stones
can be stacked upon bigger ones,
making a tower. Then,
he knocks it all down and laughs.
The other boys don’t want to play
with him. Some girls do.
The one with the long hair.
Sisyphus finds an especially pretty
stone, delicately pink
with light stripes. He keeps it,
sticks it in his pocket, shows it to
no one. And the two grow up
together.
