Oktay Taftali was born in Erzurum in 1958. He is a poet and philosopher, graduated from Istanbul University Philosophy Department in 1982 with a master degree. Later he has been proceeding with philosophy works in Vienna University since 1985.

Starting from 1980, he hold a place in “UC Cicek”, “Poetika”, “Düsler” and “E” that are literature magazines. His poems and essays were published in some magazines such as “Oluşum”, “Somut”, “Yazko Edebiyat”, “Varlık” and “Sombahar”.

His first poem book, “Pembe Aralık” was published in 1986. His other poem books are “Suların Durulduğu Yerde Yalnız Askerler” (1993), “Kan Geleneği” (1998) and “Sivil Aşk Yoktur” (Collected Poems-1998). In addition he issued the following books: “Siir Ahlak ve Estetik” (Poetry, Morality and Esthetics), “Medya Caginda Düsünce” (Thought in Media Age), “Emperyalizm, Ahlak ve Siyaset Üzerine Bir Uzun Mektup” (A long letter about Imperialism, Morality and Politics), “Batı Aydınlanmasının Sonu ve Yerli Düşünce” (The End of European Enlightenment and Native Thought).

His poems were translated to English and German.
