Maria do Rosário Pedreira (*1959) graduated in Modern Languages and Literatures (French and English Studies) from the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade Clássica de Lisboa (Classical University of Lisbon). She also studied German and Italian.

After five years of being teacher of Portuguese and French, activity that exercised decisive influence upon her decision of writing for youngsters, she subsequently joined the editorial career with great success being even considered the greatest discoverer of literary talents in recent years in Portugal.

As a writer, works in three areas: juvenile literature, fiction and poetry. Her collections of books for youngsters, using the format of detective stories were the subject of the television adaptation and sold over a million copies.

The theme of home as a closed universe where all that remains, even if only in the form of memory (read, written or experienced), is recurrent in her work for adults.

She has received several literary prizes and participated in numerous meetings with writers in Portugal and abroad. Her poems have been translated into several languages and published in anthologies and literary magazines in several countries.
