Laia Martínez i López, aka Laia Malo (Berga, Catalonia-1984), achieved a BA in Translation and Interpreting at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She is known for being a multidisciplinar artist with a strong poetic voice. She has published five Books: L'abc de Laia Martinez i Lopez; L'estiu del tonight, tonight; Cançó amb esgarrip i dos poemes poemes; Afollada and Venus volta. Besides, Malo has appeared in the main underground and academic Catalan poetry collections. As a translator, she has published the poems in Auguris d'innocència by Patti Smith (LaBreu Edicions, 2019), from English; Dels troncs d'oliveres velles, by Max Voloshin (Lleonard Muntaner Ed., 2013), from Russian; and the anthology of Siberian poets 7.516 KM (Kemerovo Univeristy Publishing/Publicacions de l'IEB, 2015). As a musician, Malo is founder and member of the duo Jansky, a unique project jamming electronic music, urban poetry and a contemporary flute. They have published three albums and they regularly tour around the world. Jansky received the SUNS Europe 2018 Award to 'Best European Band in a Minorized Language'. Besides, Malo steadily writes for museums and galleries in Spain, and she writes a biweekly cultural article for Ara newspaper in its Balearic edition. She’s also a social and cultural activist, among them, she is part of the No Callarem organization for freedom of speech.
