Poet and essayist Kate Camp was born in 1972 in Wellington. She was educated at Victoria University of Wellington where she completed a BA Hons in English.

She has been described as one of New Zealand’s most startling and original poets and is also a highly regarded literature reviewer on radio.

Kate Camp has published four collections of poems: Unfamiliar Legends, Realia, Beauty Sleep and The Mirror of Simple Annihilated Souls which was shortlisted for the 2010 Kathleen Grattan Poetry Award and won the 2011 NZ Post Book Award for Poetry. Unfamiliar Legends won an award at the Montana New Zealand Book Awards. Her poems are regularly selected for Best New Zealand Poems and appear in a wide range of New Zealand magazines.

In 2002 Camp was the Writer in Residence at Waikato University. At the end of that year she published On Kissing (2002) one of twelve titles in the Montana Estates essay series published by Four Winds Press.
