Ivana Bodrožić was born in the Croatian city of in 1982. Bodrožić studied Philosophy and Croatian at the University of Zagreb. She is regarded as one of the most important writers in the Croatian literary scene.
She writes not only about her own childhood experience of displacement, but also about being different in closed societies. Her first, semi-autobiographical novel, Hotel Zagorje, has been translated into more than ten languages.

For her literary work she has received prestigious and foreign prizes. In 2017 Ivana Bodrožić signed the declaration on the common language of the Croats, Serbs, Bosnians and Montenegrins. Ivana Bodrožić lives in Dugo Selo near Zagreb and works as an independent artist.
