Ivan Akhmetiev graduated from the department of physics of Moscow State University, then worked as an engineer, watchman, janitor, fireman, loader and so on. His poems were distributed in Samizdat, since the 1990-ies they are published both in Russia and abroad. Akhmetiev is  committed to identifying and preserving the legacy of unofficial poetry of the Soviet era. He composed several anthologies and prepared the fundamental editions of a number of clandestine classics. Since 1999 he is running the web project “Unofficial Poetry” representing more than 300 authors of mostly late Soviet period.
