Daniel Jonas was born in 1973 in Porto, Portugal. He has published seven collections of poems including Sonótono (Dreamtone), which was awarded the P.E.N. prize in 2008, and Nó (Knot), awarded with APE (Portuguese Writers Association)/Teixeira de Pascoaes Poetry Prize. He has taken part in many poetry readings and in several collective translation workshops. He has translated into Portuguese works of Shakespeare, Milton, Waugh, Huysmans, Pirandello, Auden, Berryman, among others, and is working on a translation of selected poems by William Wordsworth.

In 2008, he debuted as a playwright with the play Nenhures (Nowhere) for the company Teatro Bruto. He has been collaborating with some Theatre companies and he has co-directed both the dramaturgy of the play The Merchant of Venice and the stage reading of Paradise Lost. He was Writer in Residence at Stanford University and has been taking part in several literature events, the last of which was European Poet of Freedom Festival in Gdansk, Poland, 2015, being one of the seven finalists with the book "Passageiro Frequente" (Frequent Passenger).
