Aidas Marčėnas (born 1960) is a poet and literary critic. His reviews have appeared in a number of periodicals. He is the author of a number of works of criticism.

Marčėnas’ first poetry book “Šulinys” (A Well) was printed in 1988 and has been followed by other eight books of verse. He is a recipient of the “Spring of Poetry” Award and Zigmas Gėlė Prize.

Marčėnas was the first among his contemporaries who searched for God as the cause and form of the stability of existence, and spoke of the immortality of the soul. Most of his material is drawn from everyday life in the city of Vilnius.

Marčėnas is a virtuoso of form, predominantly writing sonnets. But in his book “Dėvėti” (Secondhand, 2001) the author refuses the illusion of poetic language as a perfect means of self-expression.
